Domaine Vincendeau is undoubtedly a new and rising ‘star’ of Anjou. The domaine was created in 2014, by the delightfully enthusiastic and ‘bubbly’ , Liv Vincendeau.
Born in Germany, Liv began studying chemistry in York, before changing direction to study viticulture and oenology, which led her to Anjou in 2000, where she met her husband.
Having purchased a property in Rochefort-sur-Loire in 2013, Liv managed to acquire a number of small plots of vines that were for sale on the slopes above the village and the domaine was born.
Liv immediately began converting the land to organic farming and works the soil with a horse, rather than a tractor.
Situated on the Corniche Angevine, the Schist based terroir here is littered with many mineral deposits, including green and purple schist and quartz. Liv has preserved the best plots of old vines, but has also begun careful replanting and currently has Chenin Blanc vines, ranging from 10 to 80 years in age, plus Cabernet Franc, Gamay and a newly planted parcel of Grolleau.
At present, the domaine has 8 ha, 4.5 of which, are currently under vine. Although she plans to increase the area of vines, this will not exceed 6 ha, to ensure that she is able to tend it without compromising the meticulous care and focus on quality.
Yields are a maximum of 35 hl/ha, fermentation takes place with natural yeast and the wines are made with minimum intervention. In an incredibly short space of time, Liv has gained great respect from the Loire’s long-standing vignerons and is regarded by many, as one of the most exciting producers of sparkling wines in the region.
