The domaine was founded in the 1920’s by a pharmacist from Avignon, called Fernand Serre. He purchased 80 hectares of vines in the lieu-dit, Les Serres.
The ever-resourceful Fernand taught himself viticulture and vinification, and became a winemaker of some renown. In 2002 Isabel Ferrando, formerly a banker, purchased the domaine which now comprises 13.2 hectares, but some of these vines are over 100 years old.
Initially with the assistance of the respected oenologist Philippe Cambie, Isabel has continued Fernando’s work. In subsequent vintages, following here 2003 debate, she has taken to working organically and even biodynamically, although she isn’t certified.

Isabel Ferrando’s reputation for outstanding wines has grown every vintage since her first release in 2003. Her wines are now considered to be some of the finest to be produced in the appellation, with many critics sharing the enthusiasm of Jeb Dunnuck, who has described Ferrando’s wines as “some of the most profound on this earth”.
The ‘August Favier’ and ‘Charles Giraud’ cuvées have matured beautifully with over a decade in bottle. The seamless and elegant fruit profiles, that are the signature of the estate, are now even more rounded and refined, with impeccable balance. Rich and dense, with dark fruits, wild herbs, chocolate and spice, these are pure and elegant Chateuneuf’s, with remarkable complexity, now showing at their very best.
