Bruichladdich ‘Islay Barley’ 2014 (8 year old) 50%
Tasting Note
Dist: 2013 Btl: 2021
Tasted: Aug 2022
Earthy, straw-like barley aromas with apricot, honeysuckle, apple and hints of nutty oak and vanilla. With time the barley develops a sweeter edge, and the floral top notes develop.
The palate opens with the sweet barley, apricot, apple, honeysuckle and vanilla. Some subtle citrus, earth and straw notes appear along with some grippy oak on the middle. Medium length (a little masked), slightly floral finish with lingering barley and tannin.
Water makes the nose slightly oilier and brings out castor sugar, tangerine, more honeysuckle and creamier oak. The palate also shows more creamy oak and more barley. Like the nose it brings out notes of castor sugar and tangerine. Longer, sweet barley finish with lingering white fruit.
