Lindores Abbey Friar John Cor ‘The Cask Strength Congregation Chapter III’ 60.2%
Tasting Note
Ex Bourbon, Amontillado & Pedro Ximinez
Tasted: May 2025
An intense, high toned nose of green barley, off-sweet, maderised fruit, coffee, rose petal Turkish delight, treacle, pepper, dry barley and dry wood smoke. Whoa!
The palate opens with smoked meat, Amontillado dried fruit and silky treacle. Hints of barley, grass, Turkish delight, edgy barley, vanilla and coffee. Even though it’s over 60% abv the alcohol is well contained. Masked with lingering rose petal spirit and oily barley.
Water lessens the oak intensity and emphasises the barley on the nose and now some subtly estery distillery character is evident as well as a bit more of the youthful spirit. The palate is very much the same, less oak, more barley and youthful spirit. Good length, dry barley, citrus and vanilla finish.
