Tasting Note

Refill Bourbon Hogshead

Cask 814727/2013

Dist: Dec 2013 Btl: May 2024

Tasted: Jul 2025

The nose is quite fresh and citric with lemon, orange and lightly oiled barley. There’s a subtle but noticeable alcohol nip, but even though its almost 60% it’s well contained. Late vanilla, pollen heavy flowers and toffee.

The palate opens with some slightly gristy barley and oily barley. It displays more oak character, toasty, toffee’ and vanilla’d, but not over blown. Fleshy apricot and apple middle. Masked with white fruit and wood smoke finish.

Water makes the nose gorgeously juicy and citric with a little castor sugar sprinkled orange and tangerine. Very silky oak notes. The palate is smooth and juicy with a lovely depth of orange, apple, tangerine and apricot. Good balancing oak character and a long, juicy, barley and oily fruit finish.
