Woodrow’s of Edinburgh Auchroisk 2016 (9 year old) 53.2%
Tasting Note
2 years finishing in American & European oak PX quarter casks
Casks: 807630A & B
Dist: Apr 2016 Btl: Jan 2026
Tasted: Feb 2026
A dusty and chalky nose with herbal barley and subtle PX treacle. Some Speyside critic notes come through along with butter, dried fruit, citrus peel and polished wood. Fairly noticeably sherry influenced but there’s enough balance there.
The palate opens on the Pedro Ximinez. Juicy, treacly and malty with a touch of barley and grippy tannins. Masked, dried fruit and citrus finish. More sherry orientated than the nose.
Water lessens the sherry and brings out a lovely robust Spey character. More barley, more citrus and a touch of white fruit. The palate also shows less sherry, although it hasn’t totally vanished. Again, more barley and citrus. Longer with quite a spicy finish.
