West Midlands Distillery English Single Malt Whisky ‘Rowielia’ 51.6%
Tasting Note
The second whisky release from the distillery is a vatting of two carefully selected casks, one peated and one un-peated, which have been combined to create this unique bottling.
Called Rowielia, after the Anglo Saxon for Rowley Regis, where this Single Malt was crafted. This Whisky draws inspiration from the Coal, Wood and “Rowley Rag” Stone that made the region famous.
A dense, oily and youthful nose of linseed oil, lime, gristy barley, earthy peat and oily peat. A little lemon verbena, banana, white fruit and Bourbony oak appear.
The palate is a bit fuller as the barley and oak is more pronounced. Youthful sweet rose petal, white fruit, apricot, unsweetened pineapple, oily barley, earthy peat and vanilla. Lovely balance and intensity. Slightly masked with rose petal, peat dust and earth finish.
Water emphasises the sweet oak and citrus. It’s still quite oily and lemony through. The palate is softer, but very much the same as neat. Longer, a touch sweeter in the finish with more earthy and oily peat.
