Few regions produce wines so naturally suited to warm weather as those of the middle Loire Valley. Their natural zip, vigour, vibrancy and freshness, born of a unique combination of mineral-rich soils, cool climate and keenly expressive grape varietals, make them the perfect solution for and antidote to the swelteringly hot, long summer days we are currently, depending on your outlook, either enjoying or enduring.
Amongst our favourites are two delightfully refreshing wines from the consistently exceptional Château de la Roulerie. Under the meticulous guidance of owner Philippe Germain, this biodynamic domaine has fast become one of the Anjou’s benchmark producers, crafting wines of precision, purity, and remarkable value.
Whilst Château de la Roulerie’s flagship cuvées have deservedly earned an enviable reputation for their complexity and longevity, the domaine’s ‘Les P’tits’ range – made from younger vines and in a style that is intentionally more immediate, youthful and refreshing – perfectly demonstrate how intuitively great winemaking doesn’t always have to involve long ageing and grand price tags.

2025 Le P’tit Chenin Anjou Blanc
From schist, limestone and clay soils, this 100% Anjou Chenin Blanc is fermented and aged in stainless steel, offering a level of refinement and refreshment rarely encountered at this price point. Bright aromas of crisp green apple, ripe pear and citrus blossom lead into a beautifully balanced palate where juicy fruit and honeyed nuances are lifted by lively acidity and Chenin’s characteristic freshness and minerality. Rounded enough to fill the palate, yet with a finish that remains wonderfully clean and invigorating, this wine represents sophisticated simplicity, honest, refreshing and endlessly drinkable.
2025 Le P’tit Pink Vin de France Rosé
An intriguing blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay, Grolleau, and Cabernet Franc grown on schistous and granite soils, and fermented and aged in stainless steel, the Le P’tit Pink is abundantly fresh, pure and tailor-made for relaxed, summer drinking. On the nose, Le P’tit Pink opens with delicate aromas of fresh red berries and subtle floral notes before revealing a lively palate bursting with wild strawberry, raspberry and crunchy redcurrant. A gentle citrus lift and mouth-watering acidity keep everything beautifully poised, while the dry finish leaves you immediately reaching for a second glass. Light on its feet, yet full of character, Le P’tit Pink captures perfectly the easy-going charm that great Loire rosé can offer.
