2011 Vilmart & Cie. 1er Cru ‘les Blanches Voies’ Blanc de Blancs Champagne
From the single lieu-dit ‘Blanches Voies’ in 1er Cru Rilly-la-Montagne, this 100% Chardonnay comes from 65 year-old-vines grown on deep, chalk-rich soils that imbue the wine with great precision, depth and minerality. Fermented and aged in small oak barrels and aged 7 years on the lees, the Blanches Voies shows a layered maturity of brioche, toasted nuts, baked apple and dried white fruits, all underpinned by a saline, chalky minerality. The palate is broad yet finely structured, with a creamy mid-palate and a long, fresh, mineral-driven finish.
2016 Vilmart & Cie. 1er Cru ‘Coeur de Cuvée’ Champagne
Also from the Les Blanches Voies plot in Rilly-La-Montagne, this stunning wine is a blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir, grapes hand-selected from the oldest and most-prized vines in the vineyard, the juice taken from the heart of the first press of the grapes. The result of these exacting selection processes, 10 months oak ageing and 5 years ageing on the lees, is a Champagne of extraordinary refinement, character and complexity. Hints of vanilla and cinnamon spice swirl around rounded flavours of apple compote, apricot and pear with soft nuances of almond pastries and white flowers. This is a wine of generosity and poise, etched in chalk and defined by crisp lemony acidity and elegantly fine bubbles.
2015 Vilmart & Cie. ‘Émotion’ Rosé Champagne
The evocatively named ‘Émotion’ rosé cannot fail to evoke exactly that response. A blend of 40% Pinot Noir and 60% Chardonnay from the 1er Cru vineyards of Rilly-La-Montagne, the original wines are fermented and aged in oak, prior to the secondary fermentation in the bottle with six years spent ageing on the lees. Ripe citric tones of zesty pink grapefruit and blood orange cut through richer strawberry, peach and red cherry fruit, whilst aromatic nuances of rose petal are deepened by wooded spice and hints of earthy forest floor. The generously rounded creamy weight, buoyed by a gently persistent effervescence, is clearly and precisely defined by chalky grip and fresh acidity. This is a rosé Champagne of truly breathtaking texture, depth and focus.
The case comes in two sizes – a three bottle case containing one bottle of each and a six bottle case containing two bottles of each Champagne.
