The Lakes Whiskymakers Reserve No7 52%
Tasting Note
Oloroso, Pedro Ximinez, Red Wine
Tasted: Dec 2023
An immense nose of jammy red fruit, burnt spice, pepper, raisin, sultana, prune, burnt grape and PX treacle. Subtle it isn’t but that the Lakes for you. With time a little autumnal fruit and tannin appears.
The palate opens with the Oloroso fruit and sweet/ silky treacle. Hints of pepper, ginger, cinnamon and jammy fruit follow along with a touch of tannin, rose petal. The tannins build towards the middle/ finish and bitter slightly. Slightly masked but very spicy finish with lingering sherried dried fruit.
Water emphasises the burnt spice on the nose and lightens the sherry a touch. It does the same on the palate, the sherry notes are more sultana and dried citrus peel than raisinated and there is less treacle character as well. Still spicy on the finish.
