The Heart Cut #15 Starward 2018 (6 year old) 54%
Tasting Note
First Fill French Oak Red Wine Barrique
Dist: Jun 2019 Btl: Aug 2024
Tasted: May 2025
The nose displays the classic grippier and tighter French oak. Subtler than #14 on the raspberry and redcurrant and not as ‘in yer face’. Subtly floral with malt, grilled nuts, barley, wood spice and lightly jammy fruit.
The palate is fresher and tighter than #14 and displays less red wine character as well. More barley and citrus along with a touch orange and cherry. Gingery Frenck oak tannin on the middle and a bit hit of juicy winey =red fruit on the finish as the wine breaks free of the tannin. Milk chocolate and vanilla after-taste.
Water brings out more of the red wine character and oak, lessening the spirit character. The palate is a little drier, nuttier and woodier with dusty cacao and ginger spice. Subtler wine on the finish but still juicy.
