Michel Redde et Fils 2020 Blanc Fume de Pouilly ‘Majoram’
Tasting Note
The cuvee Majorum is crafted exclusively during exceptional vintages from the estate’s oldest vineyards, and is truly one of the finest expressions of Pouilly Fumé around. This exquisite wine can be aged for 15 to 20 years maintaining marvellous life, vibrancy and complexity after many years in the bottle. The wine is vinified and aged over fine lees in tuns, demi-muids, and stainless steel vats, for 18 months.
In homage to Michel Redde, the 2017 vintage introduces a more genuine bottle design, meticulously wax-sealed and hand-inscribed. Its focused aroma reveals intense notes of apples, citrus and exotic fruits such as ripe nectarines and peaches, nettles, and flinty nuances. On the palate, vibrant green apples take center stage. Rich, full bodied and intense, there is an incredible depth and density here, whilst amazingly always maintaining a persistent minerality freshness. The wine’s piercing acidity creates a mouthwatering experience, followed by a rich, concentrated finish that stays true on the palate long after the bottle is finished. Decanting before serving is recommended, and pair with rich dishes to counterbalance the flavours, aromas and textures. This wine will lift sauce-based fish dishes, poultry in cream, and, even more indulgently, pan-seared foie gras.
