Mestres 2008 Cava Gran Reserva Premium ‘Mas Via’
Tasting Note
I tasted a delicious regular bottle of the 2008 Mas Via Extra Brut Gran Reserva disgorged in December 2024, after 15 years in bottle with lees. The base wine came from old vines. It was produced with the trinity of varieties, Xarel.lo, Macabeo and Parellada, fermented and kept in barrel for one year and then put in bottle to referment. It comes in at 12% alcohol, with a pH of3.02, 5.9 grams of acidity and 4.7 grams of residual sugar that make it neatly balanced. The wine is quite polished by now, with subtle aromas of mushrooms and spices, a yeasty twist and very small, faint bubbles, ready and sleek. 3,264 bottles produced.
