Mestres 2005 Cava Gran Reserva Premium ‘Mas Via’
Tasting Note
One of the two top cuvées from Mestres, and one of the finest and most complex Cavas on the planet. A blend of Macabeu (20%), Xarel·lo (65%) and Parellada (15%) from 60-year-old vines and aged for over 140 months in bottle after 12 months in Chestnut barriques, the Mas Via retains a little more fruit than the very toasty and oxidative Clos Damiana. Very elegant and aromatically rich, this wine absolutely erupts from the glass and explodes on the palate. Ripe and exotic golden apples, quince and peach is offset and balanced perfectly by complex notes of toasted bread, roasted nuts and dried fruits. The palate is powerful, mature, balanced, focused and very structured. The addition of acidity and the wet stone minerality indicative of the Mestres style rounds and balances, creating an unforgettable experience. The wine seems to have an infinite finish and evolves before your eyes in the glass. If you love sparkling wines with lots of age, this is the wine for you.
