‘Make it a Savennieres Spring’ is available as a special offer 6 bottle mixed case, containing the following wines:
3 x 2020 Petit Moulin – Domaine Loic Mahé
Loic’s ‘Petit Moulin’ is produced from Anjou Chenin, grown outside the appellation of Savennieres, fermented naturally in small tank and aged on the fine lies for 18 months. Bright, pale gold in the glass with wonderfully vibrant, apricot and quince fruits. This is a beautifully expressive Chenin, with wonderful harmony of fruit, minerality and acidity. Very stylish.
1 x 2018 Savennieres ‘Amphora’- Domaine Loic Mahé
Loic’s Savennieres ‘Amphora’ is absolutely sensational. This cuvée is produced from sandy schist soils and hand-picked with an incredibly strict selection process for the grapes. The wine is fermented in a combination of amphora and cement egg, and aged for 20 months before bottling. The nose is wonderfully intense, with an expressive and vibrant bouquet of rich almost tropical fruits, hints of nuts. The palate truly delivers on the nose as well, with great purity and depth to the fruit, whilst remaining lively and clean with a welcome steely mineral backbone. There is wonderful focus here, super definition and delineation, the balance is faultless and finish is long, clean and refined. Truly stunning.
1 x 2020 Savennieres ‘Le Parc’ – Chateau d’Epiré
When Paul Bizard took over from his father in 2018, he was keen to retain the estate’s traditional approach, but has re-named a number of the wines produced, to give a truer recognition of their origin. The ‘Le Parc’, formerly simply known as simply ‘Savennieres’, is a Cuvee produced from the 4.5 ha vineyards of ‘Le Parc’, which surround the Chateau of Epiré. More open and accessible in its youth than the other cuvees, this is a perfect introduction to the wines of Savennieres, and to the range of the Domaine. It has an attractive fresh, floral and delicately honeyed bouquet, combined with ample citrus and green apple and orchard fruits, a steely wet slate minerality and vibrant acidity. Almost sec-tendre in style, this cuvée is more fruit driven than some of the domaine’s other wines, with a delicate and rounding creaminess. There is a wonderful refined quality, which follows on through the rage and it is elegantly balanced. Perfect as an aperitif or to accompany fish and white meat dishes. This is a great diving off point, a wonderful entry into the revered range of the ancient Chateau D’Epiré.
1 x 2018 Savennieres – Le Hu Boyau
Formerly known as the ‘Cuvée Speciale’, the ‘Le Hu Boyeau’ has always been a firm favourite of ours, and found it to be one of the finest in Epiré’s range in terms of energy and complexity. Named after one of the domaines best vineyards, Le Hu-Boyau, one of the highest-lying vineyards in Savennieres, from where the grapes are exclusively sourced. Coming from sandstone, shale and phtanite rich soils, the southern and southern-eastern exposure of the vineyard brings incredible ripeness to the grapes, whilst the proximity to the Loire River keeps the temperatures moderate. It is fermented in stainless steel vats and then aged for 9 months in old oak and chestnut barrels. This dry wine is rich, densely textured with powerful apple, tart citrus and clementine fruits coming through with a backbone of spice and creaminess from the wood and a pleasant touch of rounding honeyed sweetness. Everything is harmoniously balanced with the addition of mouth-watering acidity and a steely minerality, and the length is something else. A perfect partner to a range of appetizers and creamy fish dishes!
