Smoke Without Fire is a delicately smoky single malt and a proud addition to Lochlea’s core range. Evolving from their Ploughing Edition, this expression is matured in a combination of ex-peated refill Bourbon barrels and red wine casks.
Tasted: Sept 2025
The nose shows a good intensity of spirit character – estery white fruit, peach, pear and sweet apricot along with subtle medicinal peat and vanilla. The red wine casks impart a light sweet redcurrant and berry note. Late cereal, ash and peat smoke.
The palate also kicks off with the distillery character followed by dry ashy peat. Like the nose the red wine cask influence is very subtle, and a touch of Islay herbs, coffee and peat smoke comes through on the middle. Very intense and mouth-watering citric finish with lingering peat dust and sweet red cherry.
