Tasting Note
Dark Briar is a bold and indulgent addition to Lochlea’s new core range. Inspired by their Fallow Edition, this rich single malt is matured in a combination of Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso sherry butts, and Port casks.
Tasted: Sept 2025
A bold nose of earthy, raisinated fruit along with porty black fruit, chocolate, ginger, spicy and a little oily barley. Slightly edgy, but the PX sweetness balances.
The palate displays a good soft, treacly, raisinated fruit character with spice, ginger, cereal and vanilla. Porty dried fruit comes through on the middle, along with a touch of earth. Finally, a little estery fruit and vanilla comes through on the finish with lingering cereal.
