Spanish STR Barriques
Tasted: Apr 2022
Youthful rose petal spirit and slightly bitter, grippy STR tannins. Hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, earth and red berry notes. With time some fresh barley, citrus and wood smoke appears.
The palate opens with buttery oak, barley and a lovely combination fo fresh and fleshy fruit. The STR cask adds a touch of chocolate, bitter tannin and red berry notes. Duty, spicy middle and a slightly masked, herbal barley finish with a good dollop of wood smoke and spice. (tasting note from batch 1)
Water tones down the cask notes on the nose and allows the distillery character of white fruit, honey and apple to show. Late buttery oak. The palate shows more buttery, almost American oak-like vanillins, barley and fleshy fruit. Diluted it is less bitter and thus better balanced. and a little more chocolaty. Longer, toastier and chocolaty finish with youthful rose petal notes in the after-taste.
