Langatun 2016 (6 year old) Monbazillac Finish 49.12%
Tasting Note
61 Months ex-Chardonnay/ 14 months ex-Monbazillac
Dist: Oct 2016 Btl: Jan 2023
Tasted: Sept 2023
The nose is pungent, earthy, woody, grapey and winey with herbal spirit character and a subtle earthy peat note. Hints of tar, dark honey, sweet barley, apple, apricot and creamy vanilla appear. Lovely balance with late cinnamon, clove, toasted almond and walnut. It’s quite an unexpectedly dark nose!
The palate opens with the off-sweet dark honey, cinnamon, dried grape and herbal spice. There’s loads of soft tannins and wood spice along with almond, dried apple, pear and a subtle grapey sweetness on the middle. Finally moving back to herbal spice, cinnamon, tannins, malt, ginger, walnut shell, tar and subtle peat. A little drying on the after-taste. Wow! It’s definitely not lacking in intensity!
