Lady of the Glen ‘Samhain Series: The Witches of Delnabo’ Aultmore 2013 (13 year old) 56.1%
Tasting Note
First Fill Rum Barrel finish
Cask 300444
Dist: Feb 2013 Btl: Jun 2026
Tasted: Sept 2026
The nose opens with the gritty, earthy and herbal rummy fruit. Chunky, foursquare and malty distillery character lies beneath. Lemon, lime, clementine and some almost astringent salty notes follow. I’m not sure what witchcraft has caused that! Dense and generous with late wheaten cracker notes.
The palate is grippy and alcoholic, but the Aultmore malty richness stands up to it. Less rum cask notes than the nose suggests, although those rum notes have a slight Agricole-eque character. Plenty of lemon on the middle with a little vanilla. Masked, juicy, lemon barely finish. You have to love that raw, witchy intensity!
Water emphasises the lemon notes on the nose as well as making the rum notes sweeter. The palate is much the same. A little simpler, perhaps but generous and mouth-filling. White liquorice finish.
