Lady of the Glen ‘Samhain Series: Fionn Slays the Kranna Dubh’ Bowmore 2017 (9 year old) 57%

Tasting Note

First Fill Bourbon Barrel 56
Dist: Mar 2017 Btl: Jul 2026
Tasted: Sept 2026
The nose a bit raw and cereally, which is not a huge surprise given it’s age. It’s very lemony with some subtle white fruit but not very smoky. It develops some astringent and medicinal peat. Tight but elegant with alcohol supressed creamy vanilla and wood char. Late shellfish and rock pools.

The palate is fresh, lemony and barley’d. Very citric and salty with medicinal peat, barley, vanilla and a lightly honeyed middle. Not as smoky as some Bowmore’s but it’s definitely Islay. Masked, continuing salty and citric. Mouth-watering finish.

Water brings out the oak on the nose, but it’s not overwhelming as the salty, lemony notes hold. Not quite a peaty now. The oak shows more on the palate as well. Like the nose it’s less peaty with more coastal fruit and malt. Long, salty and citric finish. Lovely!
