The nose is quite citric and rum-like with a generous array of smoky, aromatic dried sub-tropical fruit, apple, pear, lemon and lime. A little mature American oak and some almost wheaty spirit notes appear. Wonderfully fragrant, not too oaked and showing plenty of complexity. Late oily marzipan.
The palate opens up with a touch more nutty oak than the nose suggests. Lovely purity of almond, coconut and vanilla with plenty of rummy sub-tropical fruit, sultana, apricot, apple and dried orange. A touch of wood spice and smoke comes through on the middle along with some pleasantly nippy grain notes and citrus. Long, continuing spicy and nippy with a dry cereal/ wheat after-taste.
