A big, chunky, woody, Oloroso nose with bitter spice, dried Seville orange and a little minerality. Given time the nose becomes fresher and more citric. However the spirit character never quite breaks out of the sherry manacles!
The palate is clean, juicy and raisinated with hints of macerated dark fruit and malt. Slightly floral and mineral middle. Masked, stoney and toasty finish with some oily distillery character on the finish as the spirit outlasts the oak!
Diluted the nose displays more weighty Blair Athol character even though it is still fairly heavily sherry accented. The palate also shows more distillery character, apricot, vanilla and toffee. The sherry character is better balanced and accents rather than dominates. Lightly bitter spice finish with lingering nutty, toasty and macerated fruit notes.
