Tasting Note
Recioto della Valpolicella Hogshead Finish
Cask 805184
Dist: 2005 Btl: 2025
Tasted: Mar 2026
A lovely dense nose of cereal husks and malt biscuits. Almost savoury with dried citrus fruit, sultana, manure, dried grape, grippy vanillins and creamy vanilla. Not a huge amount of distillery character but plenty of complex and interesting wood character. With time the off-sweet white grape note becomes more noticeable, and the oak becomes more sawdusty and mature.
The palate opens with the dried grape and off-sweet honey, followed by sultana, dried citrus, thick set honey and white fruit. Intensely alcoholic and tight middle with subtle raisinated white fruit. Very masked, very citric, dry barley finish with lingering white liquorice, subtle menthol, vanilla and pure grape skin.
Diluted the nose is still rich and savoury, less alcoholic, obviously with more wine cask influence. Likewise, the palate!
