Filey Bay Double Oak Batch 2 46%
Tasting Note
Ex Bourbon & Virgin Oak
Tasted: May 2023
The nose is chunky and a lot more oaky than batch 1. Bourbony sweet corn, vanilla, grippy tannins and toast to begin. Given time there are some subtle lemon, apricot, barley and sweet spice notes. There is just about enough spirit character to balance the oak.
The palate opens with the oak. Vanilla, grippy new oak gingery tannins, creamy toffee and sweet corn. Subtly citric and mineral on the middle with hints of barley. Good length with the salt and mineral notes battling the vanilla and spice. In conclusion: lovely intensity but very heavy on the oak.
