Dumien Serrette 2022 Cornas ‘Henri’
Tasting Note
This exclusive selection embodies the essence of the estate, honouring the winemaker’s grandfather, Henri, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2013, marking the debut vintage of this exceptional wine. It represents a meticulous selection from the estate’s oldest vines in ‘Patou,’ matured in seasoned French oak barrels for nearly two years, capturing the quintessence of old-vine Cornas with a nod to traditional winemaking. ‘Henri’ stands as a testament to the art of winemaking, promising to enrich the cellar and delight those who wait.
Originating from vines aged between 70-100 years, the grapes are handpicked and undergo full-cluster fermentation using native yeasts in tanks. After drying and before the malolactic fermentation, the wine is transferred to one-year-old French oak barrels for six months, followed by 20 months in seasoned French oak barrels. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
This exquisite wine captivates the senses with its rich aromas of ripe black cherries and juicy boysenberries, complemented by a subtle hint of liquorice and intriguing earthy undertones. Its palate is beautifully structured, showcasing an earthy profile with profound depth that leads to a long, satisfying finish. This wine pairs perfectly with a variety of dishes, enhancing the flavours of grilled pork sausages, game meat delicately cooked in a rich red wine sauce, or succulently roasted lamb, making it an ideal choice for a refined culinary experience.
