Drumshanbo Single Irish Pot Still Whiskey 43%

Tasting Note

A mash of malted and unmalted Barley & Oats
Aged for approximately 5 years in ex-Bourbon & Oloroso
Tasted: June 2021
A full, fruity and juicy nose of barley, pear, apple and subtle estery pineapple. There’s a good dollop of creamy American oak and subtle sherried dried fruit. The oats give the aromas a lovely roundness and with time hints of melon, castor sugar and wood spice appear.

The palate has a pleasantly spicy start with a touch of sherrywood tannin. The estery, sweet pineapple, melon, pear and apple follow. It’s possibly juicier and more estery than the nose, but not overblown. Creamy American oak follows, and some freshening citrus appears in the finish to balance the sweet fruit and oak. It does make the finish feel a little austere but overall, it’s very fruity and flavourful.
