The nose is quite coffee’d with luscious orange, tangerine and guava. It’s not as funky as I was expecting but there is enough funk there to keep James Brown happy! Hugely fruity and tropical with citrus infused honey, burnt wood, sweet toffee, banana and sugar cane. OMG! A Hampden to love!
The palate is full and juicy, showing more funk, but not too much funk! Dusty spice, honey, luscious dried tropical fruit mix, melon, apricot and guava follow with a touch of sugar cane and herbal funk. There is so much juicy fruit for a Hampden it’s unbelievable. Masked, citrus and lightly tannic finish.
Water emphasises the funk on the nose and the palate, and thus it’s more traditional Hampton in style, but it still retains some sweetening honey notes, so all is not lost!
