Domaine Martinelle 2022 Vin de Pays Vaucluse Blanc
Tasting Note
Mainly Clairette, with a little bit of Picardin, planted on clay-limestone soils, up on the hillsides of Barroux, behind the Dentelles de Montmirail. This delicious wine, is a top quality Ventoux Blanc in all but name, coming from vineyards within the appellation which were declassified on a rather bizzare technicality. However, the wine truly speaks for itself, with an intensely floral and nutty nose with hints of apricot, white flowers, scrubby herbs, thyme and rosemary. It is a dry white with a pleasant grip of acidity, and a lovely round palate that finds just the right balance between tension and freshness. The palate is rich and nutty just like the nose, accompanied by white peach and apricot fruit. It is also pleasantly herbal on the back, with those thyme and rosemary notes coming through. It has lovely depth with hints of minerals and grass joining the herbal notes in the finish.
