The nose is earthy with dry cereal and some youthful ‘off the still’ notes. There is a similarity to the Indigene with under ripe banana and apricot, but the rye gives it an almost oriental spice and black pepper notes. With time a little chalk dust and minerals, but very little oak.
The palate is full and generous with a profusion of fruit – under ripe banana, apricot, melon and minerals. Subtly smoked with pulped white fruit on the middle along with a little ‘off the still’ note. Long, Oriental spice, earth, smoke and chalky mineral finish. Like the nose there is very little oak character, so the spirit and terroir character is front and centre.
