Domaine Albert Boxler 2017 Pinot Gris Reserve
Tasting Note
Jean’s Pinot Gris Reserve, is a sensational, luscious but earthy Pinot Gris from the granite soils around the village of Niedermorschwihr. It is produced from vines ranging from 15-65 years of age, from parcels around the Sommerberg and Brand Grand Crus. The palate is wonderfully juicy, singing with ripe apricot fruits and subtle notes of ginger, combined with a flinty minerality. It is seamless and delicious! Its 15 grams of residual sugar balance out the palate perfectly and the finish is delightfully long and pure. This is Jean’s second entry level Pinot Gris, before his top ‘Brand’ and ‘Sommerberg’ cuvées, and the level of quality here is astounding and would comfortably contend with, or even eclipse, most growers’ top offerings. A great alternative to a red wine, to serve with roast pork or chicken and a perfect partner to a rich pate or cheese.
