Clos Saint Jean 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape
Tasting Note
2017, much like 15 and 16 was another blockbuster vintage, resulting in lots of power and concentration. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, with a small amount of Cinsault, Vaccarèse and Muscardin. This could easily have been an overly extracted and tannic wine in the wrong hands, however, the 2017 Clos St Jean, possesses that rare mix of incredible power and richness, paired with a sense of weightlessness and elegance. Offering silky red fruit, kirsch, garrigue and graphite notes as well as a full bodied, rounded and seamless profile, the 2017 is amongst the best CDP tradition cuvées produced for this vintage. Pascal Maurel has crafted a wine that is a joy to drink now, but that has the potential to age majestically.
