Cambeltown Loch Blended Malt 46%

Tasting Note

It’s not as heavily sherried as some of the previous batches, which allows the oily, but youthful Springbank character to show. Barley, fish and funky notes appear along with some rose petal spirit, malt and oily vanilla. A little sherried dried fruit and astringent peat emerges with time.

The palate opens with the oily barley and youthful spirit. Quite fishy and coastal with subtler American oak and a little more raisnated fruit and burnt sherry notes. Fish oils and funk on the middle. Medium length with a spicy and grippy finish with lingering malt, coffee, rich apricot and subtle peat smoke. Overall, this batch has a better balance than some, even if the spirit is quite young and less Campbeltown and more Springbank.
