Brave New Spirits Whisky of Voodoo ‘High Priest’ Single Island Malt 8 year old 52.6%%

Tasting Note

Tasted: Jun 2023

A little reserved and straw-like to begin with supple red fruit and hints of tobacco, tar and lightly astringent peat. Herbal smoke and roasted meat follow as the nose opens up. Late brine, sweet barley, vanilla and plenty of coastal/ Island notes.

The palate opens with sweet-ish/ syrup coated red fruits and a touch of dried fruit. Erath, loamy peat, roasted meat and malt appears. Gains weight well on the middle and the spice builds as well. Slightly masked, malty, salty, coastal finish with a subtle herbal/ perfumed fade. Lovely intensity and plenty of character.

Water emphasises the juicy berry fruit on the nose along with the herbal notes. There’s an almost Sauvignon-esque nettle/ gooseberry note. Water brings forward the cask and makes it a little simpler. Good length with lingering sweet berry fruit.
