Brave New Spirits Whisky of Voodoo ‘Call of Crows’ Speyside Single Malt 13 year old 51.7%
Tasting Note
A vatting of Glen Elgin, distilled April 2012 aged in 1st Fill Tawny Port barrique (American oak) and Glen Elgin, distilled February 2012 aged in 1st Fill Ruby Port barrique (American oak).
Btl: Aug 2025
Tasted: Sept 2025
A really robust nose. You can sense the fullness of the Glen Elgin character more than smell it as the nose is very heavily cask orientated. But…. There is a subtle barley spirit note lurking amongst the herbal tawny fruit, roasted peppers, toasted oak and black fruit!
The palate is full, juicy and porty with plenty of tawny dried red fruit, tannin, coffee and herbal nuances. Long with the rich Elgin spirit coming though on the finish with honey and barley. Dry spice and angelica jelly after-taste.
Water emphasises the spirit character and lessens the cask influence on both the nose and palate, thus giving it a better balance. Still quite spicy on the finish.
