The nose is dense, sweet and ashy with fresh and dried citrus. Predominantly Coal Ila character with a touch of fresh fino dried fruit at the edges. Quite fruity with almost tropical apple, peach, pear, pineapple, barley and a little tarry peat.
The palate opens with the juicy apricot, apple, kumquat, sweet lime and ashy peat. Hints of dried white grape, sherry flor, green nuts and a little salty/ astringent green fruit, green peat, coconut and burnt wood embers on the middle. Pleasantly oily and mouth-filling with a long, ashy finish with lingering herbal peat, banana, and grilled unsweetened pineapple. A superb Caol Ila!
