Brave New Spirits Cask Noir Craigellachie 14 year old ‘Telfords Travels to Gascony’ 52.3%

Tasting Note

Pacheranc Cask
Tasted: Dec 2022
The nose is edgy but sweet. Honeyed and grapey with subtle oxidised white fruit, lemon. The cask is fairly heavy, but you have to love that winey grapey, late harvested honey. With time some barley and toffee notes appear.

Oxidised white fruit, white chocolate, dried grape, lemon, honey and hints of barley. Like the nose it is a little heavily influenced by the cask but it’s intriguing and wonderfully soft and smooth. Freshens well on the middle as the citrus comes through. Long, slightly tannic and grapey finish.

Water emphasises the honey and grapey sweetness on the nose. The palate is a little sweeter but also more citric. There’s also more barley character too. The purist says it’s too cask influenced, but it’s an unusual cask.
