Black Tot Master Blenders Reserve Run 54.5%
Tasting Note
Tasted: Apr 2022
An intense, herbal and funky nose with a touch of violets and sweet, dried tropical fruit. Like the Black Tot Finest, the blend of other rums balances the Hampden and adds apricot, pineapple, sultana, toasted oak, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg and a vanilla. Stunning balance with some late Agricole-esque Guyana notes.
The palate opens with layers of sweet dried fruit, citrus, pepper and toasty oak. Subtle funky Hampden and edgy Guyana notes follow along with some sweet but dusty spice and vanilla. Intense, very herbal green pepper spice and mouth-watering dried fruit finish with a sugar coated orange after-taste.
Water doesn’t make much change to the nose, maybe making it a little sweeter. The palate possibly shows a bit more Hampden character and the finish is longer, spicier and more herbal. Either way it’s a stunning rum!
Description
Elixir distillers took some of the 2020 released Black Tot 50th Anniversary Rum blend as the base, re-casking it into ex-sherry butts and barrels, to which they added layers of fruit-driven flavours using different styles of rum, aged between 9 and 24 years, from Guyana, Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica and Australia, as well as incorporating some of the original British Royal Navy rum blend itself.
