Whether it is wine or whisky that whets your whistle, you will not want to miss our regular tasting evenings, often held in our store in the center of Nottingham. Over the years, these events have become permanent fixtures in many of our customers’ calendars as they are not only highly educational, but also offer an experience that is hugely entertaining and enjoyable. Just so that we are clear, we never mix the grain and the grape, so the wine and whisky events are held on different dates!
Our wine evenings offer you the opportunity to taste a stunning array of great wines, from our fantastic producers in relaxed surroundings. Our most eagerly anticipated tasting events are our ‘Meet the Winemaker’ evenings. These particular evenings offer you the rare opportunity to converse with one of our highly acclaimed winemakers, whilst tasting their wines, which can be a highly rewarding experience.
All our winemakers are extremely passionate about their wines, and all have amazing stories to tell. Typically, on a wine-maker evening, you will learn a little about the history of their Domaine and vineyards, the vinification techniques used and most importantly, get to know a little bit about the person behind the label. With ample opportunity to ask lots of questions, you will become the font of all wine-related knowledge at your next dinner party!
Our ‘regular’ wine evenings are no less exciting and tend to focus more on what is new and exciting in our world of wine. Occasionally we like to highlight a selection of wines from one of our much-beloved regions such as the Loire or the Rhone Valley to name but two.
Our whisky evenings, like our wine events, come in two distinct formats:
Firstly, our in-house events are conducted by our resident malt whisky guru, Chris Goodrum. Chris has been our whisky buyer for over 20 years and has an encyclopaedic knowledge of his favourite subject which he is more than willing to share. On a regular tasting evening we would taste a minimum of 6 different whiskies, in a range of varying styles. With ample time for lively discussion and the opportunity to re-taste some of the whiskies, you are guaranteed a great evening.
Secondly, from time to time, we also invite distilleries (or brands) to come and co-host an evening with us. Conducted in a similar fashion to the winemaker events, the ‘distillery’ evenings can be quite eye-opening regarding what styles of whisky each distillery produces and or the different age statements available. Invariably the guest distillery will also bring something a little more unusual and unique from their reserves for attendees to try on the night, although we can’t always guarantee that.
