Bruichladdich Octomore Islay Barley 11.3 5 year old 61.7%

Tasting Note

Peated to 194PPM
Tasted: Oct 2021
The nose is quite oily, barley’d and straw-like. Youthful, phenolic and intense earthy peat arrives along with medicinal peat, tar, creosote, rose Turkish delight, manure, sweet vanilla, salt, farmyards and loam. With time hints of honeysuckle, sweeter barley, bog myrtle, garden greens and seaweed.

The palate opens with pure peat! Very earthy and medicinal with iodine, salt and tar. Hints of honey, barley and bitter tannins follow. Stunning intensity of peat flavours with the alcohol very well contained. Masked but barley’d finish with earth, black peppercorn, bog myrtle, seaweed, subtle coffee’d tannins and of course peat!

A drop of water emphasises the barley and youthful rose petal spirit notes. The peat is mainly earthy now but there mored noticeable mentholated herbal notes. The palate is oilier and softer with again,, like the nose shows more barley and youthful spirit notes. The peat is also more earthier in character. Long, slightly sweeter finish with mentholated herbs and bitter coffee.
