The nose displays plenty of slightly medicinal peat and smoke, followed by petrol and iodine. The Palo Cortado dried fruit is quite subtle but pleasantly sweet. Late bonfire smoke, cinder toffee coated apple.
The palate kicks off with cinder toffee, baked apple, earthy peat and green pepper. Lightly medicinal with again, some sweet dried fruit and a little charred oak. Lovely balance of distillery character and second fill sherry. Intense, bitter spice and green pepper finish with a bbq sauce after-taste.
Water brings out more distillery character and lessens the sherry. The palate is the opposite and shows more sherry, but the astringent green pepper notes scythe through. Finishes much the same as when neat.
