Domaine de Cristia 2022 Chateauneuf-du-Pape ‘Renaissence’
Tasting Note
Cristia’s premier wine truly lives up to expectations. This remarkable Chateauneuf ranks high among its peers in the region. Composed of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre, derived from vines aged between 55 and 110 years, it’s matured for over 18 months in a blend of both old and new French oak barrels. Impressively, this wine has the potential to age gracefully for 20 years or more.
Renaissance is a graceful and nuanced wine. Its aromatic profile is intricate, revealing layers of vanilla, smoke, menthol, pine resin, and cocoa—a complex and captivating bouquet. The palate is perfectly balanced, showcasing harmonious black fruit flavours such as blackcurrant and blackberry. Hints of liquorice, Provençal herbs, and peppery spices contribute additional complexity. There’s a wealth of flavours to explore here, and decanting the wine an hour before serving can really allow it to showcase its best. The mouthfeel is rich and robust, marked by bold, juicy tannins. The acidity is well-integrated, subtly elevating the fruit leading to a gloriously long finish.
This is a gem to leave for a few years in the cellar before unleashing on your taste buds.
